Scarisbrick Swords is a not-for-profit community sports club governed by a constitution. We aim to promote the sport of fencing, particularly for young people, in Southport and the surrounding area and to use fencing to improve the health and wellbeing of club members.
We also aim to offer affordable access to coaching and equipment for all members and work with local organisations, particularly schools, to promote fencing and its benefits. There are several members of the club who pursue national and international competitive opportunities and we try to provide them with as much practical support as we can.
Paul is the club's chairman and beginner's coach. He is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the club and the liasion with Scarisbrick Hall School staff. Paul is happy to answer any queries about the club and would love to welcome you on one of our beginner's courses. Paul can be contacted by email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by Twitter at @ScaSwords.
Maria is the club's secretary and welfare officer, who, as a GP has extensive experience in safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. Maria is the first point of contact for parents/carers, child and adult members, volunteers and staff, who have concerns about welfare, poor practice or abuse. Maria will be assisting the club to fulfil its responsibilities to safeguard children and vulnerable adults and she will be available at the majority of club nights.
Savvas is fencing parent with 3 children actively fencing competitively and is the club treasurer. He brings with him a 15 year career in investment banking. He is a partner of technology investor Deepbridge Capital where he runs the firm’s healthcare investment business. He has also been CEO of telemedicine business Dr Now and Insurtech Torafugu Tech. If you have any queries about membership fees, or are looking to buy fencing kit and need advice, he is your first point of contact.
As the club has a strong focus on developing fencing opportunities for young people, we take ensuring their wellbeing very seriously. So to properly exercise a duty of care to all our members we have a detailed Child Protection Policy Statement that follows the national guidelines provided by Sport England Club Matters.
